TRAINER DEVELOPMENT

We provide development solutions for trainers in a variety of roles and businesses - both large and small. From those giving direct instruction to those developing in the role of 'internal consultant' at all levels in the organisation.

The role of trainer has become more demanding in many respects over recent years and for rainers to be truly effective they need to be fully 'equipped' to meet the needs of the business - whether it be in a 'growth', 'static' or 'survival' mode.

Typical assignments associated with trainer development are:

• Trainer recruitment (developing role specifications, competence profiles, assessment programme design etc.)

• Direct training (instruction techniques, presentation skills, facilitation skills etc.)

• Coaching (newly recruited and/or promoted trainers)

• Personal tutoring (CIPD)

• On-the-job assessment/competence audits

HOW WELL DO YOUR MANAGERS 'MANAGE' TRAINING?

Effective managers recognise the importance of training and developing their people - not just as a routine 'gesture' following Performance Review - but to ensure their staff are fully equipped to achieve results today and perhaps more importantly, tomorrow!

Despite training for all the right reasons however, many managers have difficulty in managing the training process. The main difficulties experienced are in:

• defining job roles in terms of the competence needed to carry them out
• reviewing performance regularly and effectively
• assessing real competence (or the lack of it) in their people
• defining current or future development needs
• translating needs into realistic development solutions
• defining criteria to measure performance improvement
• adding value to support and reward development

We have carried out many assignments to assist managers in carrying out these activities associated with managing the training and development of their people.

Methods used depend on the circumstances of individual managers or client companies. They can be one, or a combination of, the following:

• one-to-one tuition/coaching
• tutorials on existing in-company courses
• bespoke training courses
